What is included in the comprehensive coverage for company bicycles?
Lease a Bike’s comprehensive protection plan consists of three components: theft and damage coverage with no deductible, a free Europe-wide mobility guarantee with 24/7 roadside assistance, and an annual budget for inspections and wear-and-tear repairs. Employees can choose each component individually and combine them as they wish.
The most important information at a glance.
What is included in the Comprehensive Protection plan? Theft and damage coverage, mobility guarantee, and a budget for inspections and wear and tear.
Is there a deductible for theft and damage coverage? No.
What coverage tiers can I choose from? For theft and damage coverage, employees can choose between Premium or All-Inclusive. For wear and tear and maintenance, employees can choose between Basic, Premium, or All-Inclusive. The coverage options can be selected individually and combined as desired. Employers can restrict the available options in advance.
Is theft covered? Yes, 24/7—provided the bike was locked.
Are the motor and battery insured? Yes, damage to the motor and battery is included.
How much does the comprehensive coverage cost? The cost is included in the monthly payment; the amount depends on the coverage levels selected.

What is the comprehensive coverage for company bicycles?
All-Around Protection is a modular protection package consisting of three components: theft and damage protection, inspections, and wear and tear. For each component, employees choose a level based on their personal needs—and they can freely combine the levels. For example, someone who wants to play it safe with theft protection doesn’t automatically have to choose the same level for inspections and wear and tear.
Good to know: Every configured package includes three fixed services: theft and damage protection, a free Europe-wide mobility guarantee with roadside assistance, and an annual budget for inspections and wear-and-tear repairs. Tire damage is also covered by the wear-and-tear budget.
What does the theft and damage coverage include?
The theft and damage coverage applies to all sudden and unforeseeable damage to or destruction of the company bike—with no deductible. Coverage includes, among other things:
Theft, burglary, and robbery (provided the bike was locked)
Accidental damage, vandalism, and operator error
Simple negligence
Design, material, or workmanship defects
Power surges, induction, or implosion
Natural disasters such as storms, frost, ice drift, earthquakes, or flooding
Damage to the motor or battery
This last point is particularly valuable for e-bikes: the battery and motor are the most expensive components on the bike, and a defect outside the warranty can quickly run into the four-digit range. Lease a Bike typically processes theft or damage claims within one business day.

Premium or All-Inclusive: What's the difference in theft protection?
The key difference lies in the reimbursement and the contract: The “All-inclusive” plan offers replacement-value coverage, while the “Premium” plan offers current-market-value coverage. There is no basic level of theft protection—employees choose between ‘Premium’ and “All-inclusive.”
Premium
Reimbursement in case of total loss/theft: at current market value
What happens to the contract: The lease agreement ends; the vehicle is not replaced
Theft protection: 24/7, if included
Deductible: None
All-inclusive
Reimbursement in the event of a total loss or theft: at replacement value
What happens to the policy: Replacement of the vehicle during the term of the policy; the bike will be replaced
Theft protection: 24/7, if included in the policy
Deductible: None
In practical terms, this means: If a bike is stolen under the Premium option, the contract ends—and employees are left without a replacement bike. With the All-Inclusive option, employees receive a new bike of equivalent value, and the lease contract generally just continues as usual. Anyone who relies on their company bike for everyday use (commuting, transporting cargo, no car) will have a much more stress-free experience with the All-Inclusive option.
What does the mobility guarantee cover?
The Mobility Guarantee ensures that you remain mobile after a breakdown or accident—free of charge, throughout Europe, and with a 24/7 hotline. Included are:
24-hour service hotline and on-site breakdown assistance
Referral to a bicycle repair shop near the breakdown location
Towing and arrangement of onward or return travel after an accident*
Replacement bicycle for up to 7 days at €50 per day*
Bicycle return transport*
Provision of emergency cash for trips abroad*
Coverage of overnight accommodation costs in the event of a breakdown*
*These services apply starting at a distance of 10 km from your permanent residence. So if your bike breaks down right outside your front door, you’ll receive roadside assistance but not a replacement bike or towing—a detail that’s often overlooked in practice.
How do inspection and wear budgets work?
Inspection and wear-and-tear costs are covered by annual budgets, the amount of which depends on the selected tier. Employees select both modules independently of theft protection.
Basis
Inspection: 2 inspections, up to €85 each
Wear-and-tear allowance per leasing year: €50
Premium
Inspection: 3 inspections, up to €85 each
Wear-and-tear budget per leasing year: €150
All-inclusive
Inspections: 3 inspections, up to €115 each
Wear-and-tear allowance per leasing year: unlimited
Important to note: A maximum of one inspection is allowed per leasing year, and the amounts listed are upper limits—if the repair shop’s bill is higher, employees must pay the difference themselves. The wear-and-tear budget covers typical wear-and-tear repairs, including tire damage. Any unused budget expires at the end of a leasing year and is not carried over to the next leasing year.
Example: Here's how comprehensive coverage works in everyday life.
Example (assumptions disclosed, no Lease-a-Bike prices): City e-bike (pedelec, UVP €3,000), 36-month term, commuter riding approximately 4,000 km per year.
Workshop estimates for annual costs:
Inspection: approx. 80–100 €
Wear and tear: Brake pads and chain; in the second year, an additional set of tires → approx. 120–180 €
Here’s how to break it down:
Inspection: A standard inspection usually falls within the basic upper limit of €85. If it costs more (e.g., including a software update for the motor), you pay the difference.
Basic wear and tear (€50/leasing year): At this mileage, this amount is quickly used up. A set of e-bike tires alone can blow the budget, especially since tire damage is included in the calculation.
Premium Wear and Tear (€150/leasing year): This option is much better suited for frequent riders. The all-inclusive plan is worth it for high mileage, heavy loads, or expensive components.

Checklist: Which comprehensive protection package is right for me?
Do I rely on my bike for everyday use (commuting, no car)? → This argues in favor of the All-Inclusive plan for theft protection
How many kilometers do I ride per year? → High mileage argues in favor of the Premium or All-Inclusive plan for wear and tear
Do I ride an expensive e-bike or a cargo bike? → Greater need for coverage
Am I aware that the Premium plan does not include a replacement bike in the event of theft?
Do I consistently lock my bike (a requirement for theft protection)?
Do I know that unused budget expires annually?
