Third edition of Bike to Work Days
15,000 euros for the Wilhelmshaven Children's Hospice.
Commutes Turn into Help: During the “Bike to Work Days 2026,” employees from all over Germany collectively covered 19,444 kilometers from June 1 through 5. For every kilometer cycled, Lease a Bike donated an amount that ultimately totaled 15,000 euros for the Wilhelmshaven Children’s Hospice. Since the campaign’s launch in 2024, participants in the charity initiative have been covering more and more kilometers.
Almost 20,000 kilometers in a week.
More than 120 companies participated in the action week surrounding World Bicycle Day on June 3. Together, they covered 19,444 kilometers, significantly surpassing the previous year’s total of 17,547 kilometers. To put that in perspective: that’s roughly the distance from Germany to New Zealand. On a total of 843 commutes, participants left their cars at home and hopped on their bikes. For every registered kilometer, Lease a Bike donated 0.25 euros and then topped up the amount, resulting in a total donation of 15,000 euros to the Wilhelmshaven Children’s Hospice.
Cycling that has a double effect.
The “Bike to Work Days” bring together two causes: more physical activity in everyday work life and concrete support for people in need. The campaign demonstrates how companies and their employees can make a difference together—both literally and figuratively. “We are deeply moved that so many people pedaled for us. Every single kilometer represents solidarity in action and helps us accompany seriously ill children and their families on part of their journey and give them carefree moments together. We thank all participants from the bottom of our hearts,” said Sandra Ecke, director of the Wilhelmshaven Children’s and Youth Hospice.
