Team Visma | Lease a Bike: Jonas Vingegaard wins Vuelta a España
Jonas Vingegaard's triumph in the Vuelta a España crowns an impressive year for the Dane and his team Visma | Lease a Bike. Following Simon Yates' victory in the Giro d'Italia and Vingegaard's second place in the Tour de France, the overall victory in the Vuelta completes a season in which the Dutch team has excelled in all three Grand Tours.
The Visma | Lease a Bike team has made history. After three intense weeks and a total of 21 stages, Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard not only secured overall victory in the Spanish national tour, but also cemented the team's status as one of the most successful teams in professional cycling. Vingegaard himself laid the foundation for his overall success with three stage wins, including a solo victory on the final mountain finish at Bola del Mundo in the north of Madrid.
“I'm really happy that I was able to seal the deal today,” said Vingegaard after his stage victory on the penultimate stage. “It's nice to reward my teammates for their hard work – not just today, but over the last three weeks, they've been absolutely fantastic,” he added.
This is Vingegaard's third Grand Tour victory of his career. He won the Tour de France twice in 2022 and 2023. This year, he narrowly missed out on another Tour victory, finishing second in the big loop in France.
Vingegaard's teammate Sepp Kuss (USA) – winner of the 2023 Vuelta and seventh overall this year – emphasized the united strength of Team Visma | Lease a Bike throughout the Tour of Spain: "Our main rival – UAE Team Emirates – gave it a shot, but we were well positioned. The last mountain stage was a good example of this: we went into the final climb with five riders in the group of favorites – that was the perfect starting position. Everyone gave their all to make it work. And of course it was fantastic that Jonas then finished the race so confidently."
With Jonas Vingegaard's victory in the Vuelta, Team Visma | Lease a Bike has completed an extraordinary Grand Tour year. Back in May, Britain's Simon Yates triumphed in the Giro d'Italia, in July Vingegaard finished second in the Tour de France – and now comes overall victory in Spain. This means that no other team was more successful than Visma | Lease a Bike in the three major stage races in the 2025 season.
